Clinical Example: Radial lateral thumb and proximal thenar zone involvement

Dupuytren's can affect any digit, including the thumb. Reports vary regarding the incidence of thumb involvement, from being the third most likely involved to the least likely involved. The thumb is usually not involved in isolation; other digits are likely to be affected as well, and thumb involvement is associated with more aggressive Dupuytren's. There are four common zones of thumb involvement: first web; proximal first web; central thenar; proximal thenar. Proximal thenar involvement is usually in continuity with a radial lateral digital cord of the thumb. These pictures demonstrate the similarity and variability of radial thumb and proximal thenar Dupuytren's.
